Pros: Your curricular and/or research needs may demand something more than what the default options provide. Cons: Purchasing non-standard configurations creates service  delays (from historical averages, jobs require 100%-400% longer to complete) which negatively  impacts you and your colleagues (the time spent working on a non-standard configuration takes away from time support staff can work on standard configurations)..

2. Engage  your department's purchasing agent (e.g., Administrative Assistant or grant account holder) to:
1. Speak with an Apple Store representative at 1-800-800-2775 (Education Number)
2. Specify the Web Proposal Number 
3. Purchase the Apple Mac with either a Purchase Order or Purchase Card

Minimum Requirements for Apple Computers
Processor	Pentium Core 2 Duo (any speed)	Required for supporting Mac OS 10.5+
RAM	2 Gigabytes (2048 Megabytes)	Required for supporting Mac OS 10.5+
Hard Disk	160 Gigabytes	We suggest storing your data on the network so a small drive is plenty for the system software
CD/DVD	CD-R/DVD Combo Drive	We use CDs and DVDs to install the system and it also provides you a backup option for data you choose to store locally
USB	1 x USB 2.0 port	We use a USB 2.0 port to assist with installs and backups
Network	10/100 Network Connection	Most modern computers come with 10/100, and all Macs we recommend have a 10/100/1000 connections
Operating System	Mac OS 10.5+	An operating system must be purchased to take advantage of the University's upgrade program and to provide support for the system in the event it changes users or departments
