Microsoft Windows and Linux Requirements - Published 2007.09.18
| Minimum Requirements for Microsoft Windows or Linux | ||
|---|---|---|
| Processor | Pentium Core 2 Duo (any speed) | Required for supporting Windows XP, Windows Vista or Linux. |
| RAM | 2 Gigabytes (2048 Megabytes) | Required for supporting Windows XP, Windows Vista or Linux. |
| Video | Dedicated video RAM (required for Windows Vista) | Required for supporting Windows XP, Windows Vista and Linux. |
| Hard Disk | 80 Gigabytes | We suggest storing your data on the network so a small drive is plenty for the system software. |
| CD/DVD | DVD-RW Drive | We use CDs and DVDs to install the system and it also provides you a backup option for data you choose to store locally. |
| Network | 10/100 Network Connection | Most modern computers come with 10/100, or higher, at no additional cost. |
| Operating System | Windows XP Pro SP2 with Media | An operating system must be purchased to take advantage of the University's upgrade program and to provide support for the system in the event it changes users or departments. Windows XP is usually a less expensive option; however, we deploy a "standard" configuration based on the most stable Microsoft OS at the time. You must purchase a Windows operating system even if you choose to use Linux. |
| Warranty | 3 Year Limited Warranty plus 3 Year NBD On-Site Service | A warranty with matching on-site support must be purchased to take advantage of the University's on-site hardware support through MMS. |
